You had to ask the hardest question on earth?!?! Lol That really is a hard one to answer. They both do different things well. It I had to pick now I think I would go with the 436. I find myself using it the most out of the 2.
Regarding your issue with DMR on the SDS-100 did you check output of the Anytone using a spectrum analyzer to see if it’s slightly off frequency when transmitting? I had that issue with one of my Anytone radios and I ended up going into the factory settings to recalibrate it. The issue happened after I did a firmware upgrade on the radio for some reason. Digital decoding requires the signal to be pretty spot on frequency for the decoding to work correctly. The 436 might have a bit more wiggle room to decode. Just a thought.
Awesome site on mod information for the Anytone 878. Link on how to get into full test / adjustment mode which is used to fine tune your transmit frequency if needed. Make sure you record the setting before you make any changes as you can really mess up your radio if not careful: https://nq4t.com/anytone/878techmods.htm#FullTestMode
Which do you prefer the Uniden BCD436HP or the Whistler TRX-1 and why?

The 436 has auto record on Discovery mode and that feature is huge to me. Incase I missed the TX I can go back and listen to it.
