I picked up the Icom-705. I’ve wanted it since it came out. I made sure I got the MAR mod on it. I’m waiting on some protection to get here before I start fielding it. I did get it to work on my 3 favorite digital modes. JS8CALL, VarAC, and Winlink. I haven’t tried FLDIGI yet but I don’t really use it that much.
I’m keeping the XIEGU X6100 though. Even though I had some problems with it its still too good of a radio to get rid of. Now the Q900 on the other hand I plan on sell. I really don’t like that radio. I’ve ran it quite a bit but I couldn’t get it to work on JS8CALL even following others same settings that they got it to work.
I did have a problem with the 705 working with digital programs. I set it all up and it would work but then stop working. I reset the computer and the radio multiple times and I kept getting the same problem. I ordered a new USB Micro Data cable and that seemed to solve that problem. Right now I’ve been on VarAC since 2am last night and it’s still working. Hopefully that’s all it was. HF is the way. Get out there and train with your HF setup!
I love my Icom 705. Be sure to use USB designated data cables with built in ferrite chokes and you should have a trouble free experience. I hope your new cable works for you!
