In this video I show 4 Meshtastic node talking to each other. There was no phone or tablet connected to any of them. Now before someone tells me that how a network works I already know that. I know they talk to each other. The point of this video is to show OTHERS they talk to each other and you have no control of you RF emissions with Meshtastic unlike your HT radios. I personally don’t want a radio sending out signals without me knowing but that’s just me….
Meshtastic is totally open source and community developed (which I’m sure you know). They have a very active Discord where all of the development happens. You could try dropping in there and asking them what is causing this. It’s very possible there is a setting or some other way to disable this. If there isn’t currently they might be willing to add one for you. – in the name of battery savings if nothing else.

Try putting the nodes in “Repeater” mode and see if the extra transmissions go away https://meshtastic.org/docs/configuration/radio/device#role

Hey WS, I wanted to circle back to this
Check out the first 2 videos in this series – it will show you exactly how to disable all of the extraneous broadcasts on your nodes so you can run a totally private network:
Hopefully you can do some more testing before you write off Meshtastic entirely – I look forward to your reports

I’ve been looking back into it. I have to get new nodes those since mine are not supported. I see they have changed ALOT since my first evaluation. I’m gonna dig back in.
