This is my 3rd summer on this property. I’ve been trying my best to build up the soil on my garden.
This picture below is what I started out with. I’ve added peatmoss and compost every year. I have tried to only use organic fertilizer. I also haven’t used any pesticides.

The pictures below is how its going so far. I have pumpkin, spaghetti squash, zucchini, yellow squash, potatoes, onions, carrots, beans, and tomatoes all growing decent.
I was using the Ruth Stout method(deep mulching) for the last 2 year but decided not to do that this year after I found a bunch of weird worms underneath the hay. So I pulled most the hay off and tilled the ground up again.

With a little bit of hard work and some soil ammendment I am scratching out some bit of existence here in the high desert.
Well done. That’s hard territory for any garden. Your persistence will continue to pay off year after year.

Thanks! It is definitely hard up here. The early freeze is what normally kills the garden.

Looks good! Adding peat moss and compost is the way we do it too. For bulk I’ll add topsoil and composted manure mixed together every other year as well. I’ve had a lot of success using that in my raised beds.
